pls HELP! Michael Foucault-who should I compare to?
pls help-i have to write a brief compare/contrast paper. which theorist should i compare michael foucault (his discipline and punishment work, specifically the chapters on the means of correct training and panopticism). i can choose from freud, marx, durkheim, rousseau, locke, hegel, kant, jessica benjamin, weber???? PLEASE Help, i’d really appreciate it!!!!
you could take the line that Foucault has been called a post structuralist -see web site 1. below
then compare him with Marx – who takes a structuralist view of social life -and whose marxian followers such as Althusser are definitely structuralists.
ps Althusser initially influenced Foucault so maybe a comparison between these – Marx + Marxians (including Althusser) and Foucault would be good. web site 2 for abrief intro to althusser
Web site 3 is a comparison of foucault with number of the theorists you mention as well as with Althusser
pps if you do chose this path then Foucaults concept of ‘capillary power’ is significant
(for Althusser as a structuralist see web site 2. below)
