Extended Vision
Short temporary painless black-outs of vision.?
I have been having these short black-outs of vision in which my vision fades to black and then returns in a matter of second for about 3 months now. I am getting worried, and I think I may have to tell my doctor or optometrist about it soon. They only last about 5-10 seconds and happen about once a day.
I feel no pain or light-headedness when it happens, but it is still worrisome. It also only happens when I get up after a while after sitting or laying down for extended periods of time. (I often get them between classes after sitting down for 80 minutes). I have been getting multiple answers on the web, but I need to know what is the most likely one for me…Please answer if you can help.
Thanks, I’ll look it up. It’s in both of my eyes, and I’m only 16. I don;t think I’m in risk of a stroke but I’ll still ask my doctor.
If it is happening in both eyes at the same time then it sounds like orthostatic hypotension, where your bood supply isn’t reaching your brain/eyes fast enough when you stand up. There are many possible causes, but you need to talk to your doctor about it.
If it is happening in one eye only you need to see your doctor urgently, as you may be suffering from amaurosis fugax and be at high risk of stroke.
